Tips on Choosing the Perfect Bathroom Faucet

May. 18, 2017
The perfect faucet can be the cherry-on-top of a newly renovated bathroom, but it can also be a stressful decision for homeowners. So, how do you choose the right one? There’s more to consider than just the aesthetic. You must think about the construction of your sink and faucet.

First, think about the basics. You will need to consider four main features of your sink and faucet including configuration, valve type, handles and style.

  • Mounting Type

Would you rather have the faucet mounted on the sink or wall? This is something you will have to consider before choosing a bathroom faucet because the installation process is different for both.
There are two terms that relate to the dimensions of standard faucet drillings: centerset and widespread. They mean how far apart the holes in the sink are where the faucet will be. A centerset faucet fits in holes that are 4 inches apart, and a widespread faucet fits holes that are 8 inches apart.
  • Valve

Valves control flow of the water and play a huge role in the durability of your faucet. Good, solid valves can keep a faucet working for years. There are different types of valves including compression, ball and cartridge.
  • Control Options

You must also consider faucet handles. Home improvement pros suggest thinking about who is using the bathroom before choosing the handles. You must also consider how many handles you want on your faucet. There are different handles to choose from including buttons, cross handles and knobs.

  • Color and Finish

Once you have decided the mounting, valve and controls of your faucet, it’s time to start thinking about the aesthetics. Make sure to match the faucet color and finish with the rest of your bathroom design and color. You can choose between black, copper, iron or gold plus many other colors.
