90 degree summer days will slowly be making their way out for the 70 degree days of fall. Lucky for us, we don’t have to prepare for frigid temperatures. However, there are still a few fall maintenance tips that are worth taking note of.
Clean your gutters
The summer has brought a lot of rain, now is a great time to clean your gutters before the fall leaves start to accumulate in them.
Improve landscaping
Cut back trees and landscaping that has become overgrown during the summer months. Cooler temperatures make it the perfect time to do some work outdoors.
Change batteries
Change the batteries in your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors.
Change air filter
Start the new season off fresh by changing your home’s air filter.
Clean fireplace
Give a professional a call to come out and clean your fireplace. This will help eliminate fire hazards.
Check ceiling fan direction
The direction of your ceiling fan blades makes a difference. Make sure that your ceiling fan blades are rotating clockwise to bring warmer air down.
Check the exterior of your home
Check the exterior of your home for cracks and gaps. These gaps are simply money wasters; they let air sneak right out of them. Run to your local hardware store and pick up some caulk and weather stripping to seal the gaps and start saving yourself money.
Inspect your roof
Look for missing or loose shingles and repair them promptly. Missing shingles can quickly cause water damage inside your home, leading to unwanted drywall, electrical, plumbing and heating and cooling system damage.
