Breathe Better with Air Filter Changes

Changing AC Filter

All the air handled by your A/C system passes through the air filter at one point or another. Your air filter is a critical component of your system. If it doesn’t get changed out on a regular basis, it can lead to premature system failure, poor air quality, as well as overall lower system efficiencies (and higher utility bills!). Changing your air filter regularly is an inexpensive way to ensure you’re getting the best from your A/C system.

Here are the top reasons why it’s important to change out your air filter regularly:

A dirty air filter means lower indoor air quality. The air handler in your A/C system pushes air through your air filter into the blower motor. Your air filter removes any particles from the air, i.e., dust, pollen, carpet fibers, etc. so that it does get recirculated into your home. Once the air filter is full of particulate it needs to be replaced so that these particles do not get blown back into your home.

Dirty filters are the #1 cause of system failure. A dirty filter is the reason many system’s fail prematurely. A clogged filter makes your system work harder to make up for the blockage of air flow. This can cause the blower motor to overheat and lead to system failure. A new, clean air filter is an inexpensive solution to ensure your equipment lasts as long as it should – a much cheaper solution than having to replace your equipment!

A decrease in efficiency means higher energy bills. As I mentioned earlier, the air handler works by pushing air through the air filter. If the filter is full of debris because it hasn’t been changed lately, it has to work harder to push the air through, using more energy which equates to higher utility bills.
